Creative Writing- Conflict

Person vs. Self

****
"Comon' Steph! It will be so much fun!" My newest friend Leanna called to me as she headed towards the couch where I was sitting on.

Leanna, Sydney and I were home alone at my place. My parents were out for the weekend, went to Vegas to celebrate their 17th anniversary. Sydney and Leanna were my new and pretty much only friends that I had since moving to this town. My family had just moved here in July, and I surprised myself when I realized that I didn't mind the move much. Maybe I'm just not caring anymore. My mom is a writer and by dad works with the military, and because of my dads job, we move often. Making new friends has been hard for me, and I think I am getting to the point where I had given up on making new friendships. But then Leanna and Sydney found me, in the hallways one day, and even since then we have been friends.

Sure, they might not be my mothers first choice of friends, but I honestly couldn't care less. They liked to party often and of course drinking comes along with that. Who knows what other hobbies they cared for. I don't really mind because they were nice to me and they were also the closest things that I had to a friend in a long time.

"I'm not sure," I replied after a drastically long pause. I had been to a party with them before and it consisted of me drunk for the first time. Long story short, my mom was beyond pissed and I don't want to get in that situation again.

"I'm not feeling up to it today. I have a headache," I lied.

"Oh please Steph! Stop being pathetic and making stupid excuses," Leanna said as she slapped my thigh which was not covered by my denim short-shorts.

"No but legit guys, my head has been hurting for a while now."

I tried thinking of a better excuse quick, but nothing came. I didn't want to loose my new friends but I didn't want to get my parents, esepically my mother, that upset again.

"Steph, it's okay, your parents wont be home until Sunday! They wont even know that you left! It's all good, you're with us!"

'You're with us', that's the problem I think. I don't want them to get drunk and then forget about me.

"Yeah," Sydney adds, "Your parents wont have a clue! We'll have so much fun and you'll totally miss out! You might even meet some new people there. Isn't that what your mom wants?"

I thought about that for a moment. Leanna and Sydney were right, my parents wouldn't know at all! A jolt of excitement ran though me, but it was also mixed with guilt. I knew that I would be disobeying by parents wishes and that I shouldn't do that because they only want the best for me. But deep down I knew that I wanted to go. I would probably make new friends too, that's what my mother wanted anyways. And when she asks where I met them I'll just say school. Perfect! Nothing to worry about.

"You have to come!"

"Ok fine, I think my head feels better now anyways," I say and stand up with a smile on my face.

Creative reading- character sketch

My character that I created is a 39 year old male named Andrew Bouguar.

***
Hi, my name is Kelsey and I'm 14. I have a younger sister, Sam, who is 12. We live with our single mom in our small but comfy side-by-side. Recently, about three weeks ago, my mom met this guy when she went out with her friends to celebrate a birthday.

"You can call me Andy," he had said to Samantha and I when we first met. He seemed like a nice guy, but I can't help but have this odd feeling about him. He looked normal, wearing plain jeans and teeshirt. And I could see why my mom found him attractive. With his short brown hair and deep green eyes, he wasn't all that bad looking, putting myself in my mom's shoes.

Even though my mom and him have been dating for three weeks now, and I have met him several times, I still concerter him somewhat a stranger. Samantha is convinced that he's a spy, and that idea I think is very possible.

Andy says that he is an engineer. Whenever my mom asks how work is, he often says that he can't say because it is top secret. My mom was telling me once that he designs rockets for the government and things like that. He has to go through a bunch of lie tests and has to swear on his life that he won't tell anyone- that's how classified and intense his work is. Very suspicious if you ask me.

Andy was also telling me once that he owns his own business too. It's also something complicated, "making and selling engines," he tried to simply explain to me and Sam.

My mom admires him because he is so dedicated to his jobs and he works hard at them. I call it being a work-a-holic, and him having nothing better to do with his lonely, pathetic life.

He also travels to the states often to pick up parcels. "Things for his company" apparently. Whatever that means, could be bomb parts. Most of the things he orders from online too. Andy has a dual citizenship with Canada and the United States that make traveling that much easier for him.

My mom and him think that it would be a fun experience if we traveled to the states together for the may long weekend. I would prefer to stay at home and do nothing, thank you very much. He suggested this idea over a home cooked dinner one evening, and I almost choked on my chicken.

That's all for now!

Creative Writing

My family and I just moved houses about a year or so ago. I was excited about this move because I didn't have to share my room with my younger sister. My new room is smaller, but it is definitely worth the sacrifice. Another good thing about my new room was that I got to design it from scratch. I chose a lime green for three of the walls and a deep blue for the accent wall, my favorite colours. My sister and I had to paint our own rooms. One day, as I was painting, I got bored so I started painting my dog on my wall in lime green paint. When my mom came in and saw it, she told me that I couldn't paint over it because she liked it a lot. That is still there right now right side my bed headboard.

Right above my headboard there is two wooden handmade lizard sculptures, that I got in Jamaica last December. Next to that is my night table that has an alarm clock and silver lamp that has circles that dangle. Above that are pictures from Jamaica. There is a blank space between the portrait and the space behind my white door. I want to put some inspiring Michael Jordan quotes. Behind my door, there is a caricature that I got when I went to Quebec last year with my school. The opposite wall is the accent wall, which has a window that overlooks my backyard. Brown blinds cover it at night, and during the daytime they are up with the window open (well only in summer), letting the breeze of the summer air and the sound of happy birds in. The blinds are like the ones from Boston Pizza. My closet is to the right of the door. The doors are mirrors with a white border around them.

Underneath the window is my desk that I do my homework on. My grandfather made it, and also the matching dark brown nightstand beside my bed.  silver lamp and papers always accompany it. To the left of the desk, is my white swinging chair from Ikea. It was meant for me to sit on it but almost always it has piles of clothes on it instead. To the right of the desk is a small brown shelf that holds my miscellaneous things, like books that I haven't read in a while and an empty fish tank that I was hoping to fill last summer but never did yet.

Literacy Blog #7

Puck
The actor I would choose to play Puck would be Johnny Depp because I think that he has a mischievous look to him sometimes. For example, in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory when he plays the character of Willy Wonka. He is mysterious. In act two, scene one, when Puck is talking to another fariy, we learn that Puck likes to fool around and play tricks on people for fun. When I thought of someone that would fit Puck's role, the first name that came to mind was Johnny Depp.

Titania
The actor I would chose to play for the fairy queen would be Anne Hathaway because she is very pretty. I would have her wear a blond wig though, because that's how I imaged Titania. She would also be a good choice because she has had experience with acting as a member of royalty before, acting as Mia in the movie The Princess Diaries and it's sequel. Doesn't she look like she could be a queen?

Helena

The female actor that I chose to play the role of Helena is Amanda Seyfried.

Literacy Blog Number 6

The cover that I think best describes the play A Midsummer Nights Dream would be the last choice:

I chose this picture out of the other ones because this one actually has someone (Hermia probably)sleeping on the cover, so it fits the title, A Midsummer Nights Dream. None of the other choices has a person sleeping. This cover also shows the forest at night in summer and there is fairies around. This is all very fitting because as we know, the setting is in the forest. I think that the image that is on the cover is part from earlier in the play when Hermia and Lysander run off together. Hermia tells Lysander to sleep further away from her, so that is why he is not in the picture. There are fairies around Hermia because they live in the forest. This is where the major problems happen in the play because Puck puts the flower juice on Lysander, thinking that he is Demetrius. The author might have chose this picture as the cover because of this; because the drama picks up here, thus is important to the story line. So in conclusion, this is the best cover for A Midsummer Night's Dream because the image is important to the story and makes sense to the story.

Literary Blog #5

I finished reading Glass and started reading a book that I bought during spring break.  It is called Before I Go To Sleep by S.J. Watson.  This is what the cover looks like:

It is about this woman named Christine who is in her forties who looses her memory every time she falls asleep, so when she wakes up, she still thinks she is in her twenties.  Christine wakes up and doesn't remember her husband, her location, friends, etc.  She has been waking up confused for the last twenty so years of her life.
This book is similar to the play A Midsummer Night's Dream (written by Shakespeare) because in the play, there is so many people who are in love with someone but that person doesn't love them back.  Hermia is supposed to marry Demetrius but Lysander and Hermia are in love with each other.  And Demetrius loves Hermia, Helena loves Demetrius.  Crazy isn't it?  Then one character Puck has a magic flower that if squirted in someones eyes, the first thing they see they will fall in love with.  The juice gets on many peoples eyes, so the whole love "triangle" gets even more messed up.  Because of it Lysander decides his true love isn't Hermia anymore but Helena instead.
This reminds me of in Before I Go To Sleep how whenever Christine wakes up she doesn't remember her husband, Ben.  Ben can be Hermia and Lysander and be Christine.  Christine has been sprayed with the "love juice" but instead of loving the first thing she sees and not caring about Ben she doesn't remember him.  Just like Lysander gets sprayed with the juice and doesn't have feelings for Hermia.  Ben and Hermia probably have very similar feelings, except Ben is forgotten every night for the last twenty or so years.  He tells Christine everything that he said the day before to her, who he is, who he is etc.  So doing this for so long not only does he have incredible patience and love for his wife, but also it must hurt him.  His wife can't remember that they are married!  It is the same feeling with Hermia because the love of her life completely turns his back to her and runs after someone else.

Literacy Blog #4

Lots of people that I know are going away for this spring break. I really wish I were one of these fortunate people because I am stuck here, while most of my friends are away somewhere nice. They left me behind in the snow with my family for a week, um, not so fun. My spring breek in a nutshell would be nothing. Sleeping in and lounging about my house is how it`s going to be. Well maybe that`s not completly true. Lounging around consists of going on Pinterest (a lot!) and Facebook (etc.), finishing my drawing of Cody Simpson, and sleeping in, which is what I`m looking forward to the most! I will be leaving my house during the week (at least once) to go get my hair done. I`m looking forward to that also. For those who know me, I have always had long hair, I could not ever cut it short. So, I am just getting a little trim to get rid of all my millions of annoying split ends, and blonde highlights because I miss my blonde. I will go out to the country (my dad lives out of the city), read and watch movies. I am thinking about going shopping too and get some springy clothes! I will probablly work out in my basement a lot (I have a gym there) because know me, when I`m bored I eat. And being bored for a week= lots of food consumption! No just kidding! I do have enough self control not to just eat for a week (that would be really gross), and I will use my free time to benifit myself. So that`s my plans for my amazingly fun spring break.

This picture above will be me having fun on the computer for a week (sounds and looks great doesn`t it?)

Literacy Blog #3

I'm reading the series called Crank. The part that I enjoy the most about the series is the author's style of writing. Every page is written in like a poem style, so it keeps you really interested. Sometimes the writing is in the form of a letter, or random or symbol. I don't find it that hard to read.

The odd             time
the author           will
write very
differently.
Like this.

I think it
makes
reading               pass
faster.
It makes
the pages
turn really            fast.

That is just a bad example of how creative Ellen Hopkins is. There is two different ways that you can read it, the first being from left to right, and the second being just reading the right column.

Another
example of
Ellen Hopkins'
style of writing would
be this one.   Personally,
I  think that       this style is
                                                           my second            favorite style
Why not my number one choice?
Because with the other one that is
                                                       shown above,             has not only
one way that                you can read
it but two neat               ways. Don't get
me wrong, this               is honestly very
neat, but I like               the double better.

This is another bad example of how the writing in the books are. This time I wrote in the letter A.
I really like these books, and I would highly recommend them! Here's what the series look like:

Literacy Blog #1- Semester 2

I just finished reading this book called Girl, Stolen by April Henry.

1) What happens in the book is there is this 16-year-old girl named Cheyenne Wilder who is in the back seat of her stepmother's car in a parking lot. She is waiting for her step mom to come back from the drug store with her prescription to heal her pneumonia. Cheyenne takes a nap while she waits. Then before she realizes what is happening, the car is being stolen with her in it. The thief didn't realize that there was someone in the car, otherwise he wouldn't have stole it. When Griffin notices that he isn't lonely in the car, he gets worried; he didn't mean to be a kidnapper. Cheyenne puts up a good fight, clawing at his face and screaming to let her go, but then Griffin learns that learns that she is blind, and the tables turn his way because he knows that she cannot recognize him. He decides to tie her up and keep driving. Griffin's intentions are to drop her off  on the side of a road, far enough from where he lives but close enough to city without being seen. Roy isn't that nice, and has different ideas, especially when they learn that she is the daughter of the president of Nike. Griffin doesn't know what to do and who he can trust, Cheyenne feeling very much the same way. Griffin has been nice to her and her protector from the others, yet he is the one that kidnapped her. She decides that she must escape her self because she thinks they are going to kill her. But a blind girl who could easily die from the pneumonia she has, and is lost is not the best combination for someone who wants to escape from her captors.

2) The protagonist in this book would be Cheyenne Wilder. She is a sixteen-year-old girl, who is blind. Her and her mom and their dog were walking one day on the side of a road and a car hit them. Her mom and the dog died, Cheyenne lost her vision. This happened when she was thirteen. Her dad is the president of Nike, and he seems very nice and caring. At the hospital where Cheyenne was staying during her treatment there was a nurse there named Danielle. Cheyenne's father ended up marring her some whiles after the accident. Cheyenne is pretty with black curly hair, like her mothers, and very dark eyes. She can see a sliver out of her left eye, but it is not much, so she is still legally blind. She hates being blind because it is confusing and embarrassing at times. She loves her guide dog because he connects her more with the world. People approach her and ask to pet him, and he even saved her life once. People don't have to ask her if she's blind because they notice her guide dog and they know. She loves her dog and her family. Cheyenne is smart and brave. If she were played by a famous actor in a movie, it would be Laura Marano. I chose her because he has dark hair and dark eyes and I think that with the right touch ups with her hair to make it all curls, she would be great!

3) The main setting in this book is somewhere in the outskirts of a bigger town or city. The house where Griffin lives is somewhere that is approximately a hour drive from the city or town. It is in a very isolated place, with no neighbors, and the small roads that lead you to there are deserted. I think that it took place in the USA somewhere because Griffin was a high school dropout and there are some states still that the dropout age is 16. I think that this book was written from the past because now people would be smart enough to lock their doors when they leave their car running with their blind child inside. I think that the time frame was 2000 ish maybe. The setting reminds me of little places like Petersfield, Manitoba or some small area like it. It's is because it is small and is a 45 minute drive from the city, so it fits the time frame that Cheyenne had calculated in her head (1 hour). The setting of this book also reminds me of the time when my family and I went for a road trip to Saskatchewan and we were running low on gas and were lost. We turned onto this gravel road, and it was so abandoned. There was just empty farmland on either side. Just before we eventually got to the end of the long road, there was this old, boarded up and abandoned house. I think that if you but the two locations together you will end up with the location in the book.

Literacy Blog #2

One of the books that I am reading right now was one that I found in Mr. Toms library. It's called Outside Shooter by Thomas J. Dygard.

Today's blogging is about connections that you have with your book. First I should tell you a little about the book. What happens is Bloomfeild High School is looking for a new basketball coach so Deke Warden applies for the job. He even turns down an NBA contract just to lead the team! But the team last year, the team had its struggles and Deke is worried that they don't carry on to this year.

One connection that I have to the book is Deke's feelings the night before the Bulldogs first game. He had a bad sleep the night before because he was having nightmares about the game and the season. I can relate because I also get like this before the first game of the season, or before a big, important game against a rivalry team or something. Even if I know that someone is coming to my games and I want to impress them, I will get especially nervous. I end up getting myself worked up and I will be extra hard on myself during the game. Like Deke, I have trouble falling asleep the night before, for similar reasons. He is having nightmares about the team loosing 50-0, and I over think about everything. He wants to do a good job coaching, and I want to do a good job playing.

All About Me

Hey, I'm Jess and welcome to my blog! Here are some random facts about me...
My recent obsessions are Australia and Pinterest. Why Australia you ask? Well to be honest, I'm not too sure myself! I love traveling and summer, so I guess when the two merge they equal Australia! Maybe I'm also attracted to their awesome accents (even though I think that South African accents are better), I don't know. When I get older, I am going to do lots of traveling! I find it a bit ironic that I love traveling but suck at geography. My favorite Aussie singers are Keith Urban and Cody Simpson. Keith Urban is also my favorite country singer, if not my favorite singer in general. I love listening to music. My iPod is mostly made up of country and pop music, but I don't really have a genre that I absolutely cannot listen to (well that is if you consider scremo a type of music). As for books, I like adventure, suspense and a good mystery, and the same follows for movies. Except after reading mysteries, I don't feel smart because the "murderer" or whoever is usually who I didn't expect. Even though I like reading, I don't read that much. Art and photography are hobbies that I enjoy very much. Like I mentioned before, I am obsessed with Pinterest! I can stay on it for hours! I have a rather large family, two brothers and three sisters, plus me. All of my siblings are older except one younger sister. I don't like to disappoint people and sometime I can be really hard on my self. This is something that I need to work on! I eventually want to go skydiving and learn how to snowboard and surf. I have a big quiet side to me but I'm actually really friendly, competitive, and loud sometimes.  I have always had a love animals. I have three pets; a dog, a cat and a hamster named Scrappy. I also love shiny jewelry, Nutella and Reese's Pieces!!  Despite my regular cravings for chocolate, I am athletic. I love basketball and Michael Jordan is my inspiration. I play volleyball and basketball, then softball in the summer, and I enjoy running. I signed up for the cross country team at my high school, but before it even started I ended up quitting because I'm too busy with volleyball and basketball! Busy busy!

That's me!
